Foregen
VerifiedRegenerating the foreskin through tissue engineering.
Research & RegenerationMission
To regenerate the human foreskin and restore the structures, functions, and sensations lost to circumcision through regenerative medicine and tissue engineering.
About Foregen
A non-profit pioneering regenerative-medicine research to fully restore the foreskin — including its nerves and specialized tissues — through tissue engineering, going beyond what non-surgical restoration can achieve.
Foregen is a non-profit research organization founded in 2012 and headquartered in Italy. Unlike non-surgical restoration, which stretches existing shaft skin, Foregen's goal is to regrow a fully functional foreskin — complete with the nerves, blood vessels, mucosa, and specialized tissues that are removed during circumcision.
Its research uses decellularization and recellularization techniques: a donor foreskin is stripped of its cells to leave an extracellular-matrix scaffold, which is then reseeded with the recipient's own cells, working toward an eventual transplantable, living foreskin.
Foregen funds laboratory research, publishes regular updates to its supporters, and is working toward human trials. It is funded almost entirely by individual donors and is one of the most-watched projects in the genital-autonomy movement.
